Scanning on HP Multifunction Devices

On OSX, multifunctional printers such as MF8280CW may display an error message along the lines of:

Cannot scan because of the following:
- Scan type set on the scanner is incorrect
- Scanner is busy
- Error occurred in the scanner
- Scanner is in Sleep mode
Check the scanner status and try again.
Scanner driver will be terminated.
Error code: 2100010

when attempting to scan a document. The workaround is to use the printer's menu and counter-intuitively select Select scan type→Remote scanner (instead of Computer). The printer will display Waiting… and then on OSX any software can used to scan.

Preventing Overheating System Sensor on Proliant Servers

One of the most common overheating condition is experienced due to an elusive sensor 28 on DL360 G7 and similar correspondents on other server models. The main cause seems to be bad intake airflow at the front of the servers since sensor 28 seems to be located on the harddrive backplane at the front of the server. Commonly what happens is that dust and grime accumulates on the front grills of the server and prevents the fans from pulling air through the front intakes. Cleaning the front grills regularly seems to sufficient to get the harddrive backplane sensors back to normal.
