The power supply unit (PSU) shipped with the Amiga is said to be underpowered (rated at ) and it is common knowledge that the Amiga requests more power to be drawn out. The commercial solution is to buy something called a Goliath PSU, which is essentially an ATX power supply that has been coupled with the Amiga power cable. If you have an ATX power supply, it can be easily converted to be used with the Amiga.
The pinouts can be seen on the FUSS Amiga hardware page. Namely, we need to dismantle the ATX power supply, cut the leads for: +12V
, -12V
, +5V
and GND
and merge them together.
The leads of the power cable must be matched to the leads of the power supply:
Another modification that must be made is to short the PS-ON
lead such that the power supply is permanently switched on. That is not a problem since we already have a power button on the ATX power supply.
