The BV4141 controller is supplied by ByVAC and features a nice cool-blue display with colors and graphics-drawing abilities. The complete datasheet can be found locally 1) since the product was discontinued: "Unfortunately the bad news is that the 4141 was discontinued about 3 years ago, reasonable Nokia displays were becomming difficult to get hold of. It was replaced by the BV4629 that works in a similar way but can be also used as a microcontroller." - Jim
The ByVAC 4141 is controlled over a virtual COM
port (VDR) by using a FTDI interfacing driver which is available for all operating system. It can be used in numerous applications and we have used it for tailing system logs. The display shows great potential, starting from simple applications where a log-file could be piped onto the display or it could be coupled with HTTP services (perhaps, something like prowler). Further plans include writing a clock application, and displaying growl-like notifications, where events are thrown onto the display.
The following index lists the current projects specific to the BV4141. The main point of interest is the display controller
project which implements the BV4141 communication such that further projects will use bv4141ctl
to pass messages.
