About

The CRT One is a compact CB radio operating on civilian bands designed with mobility in mind.

Given the limitations, a few features are lacking but the CRT One is easy to modify.

Modifications

  • Make the hand-held microphone removable.
  • Add power jack instead of hardwired car lighter jack.

Removable Handheld Microphone

The handheld microphone is attached to the CRT One with a cable containing four wires. Using a 4 pole male and female jack, the CRT One can be modified in order to allow the convenient removal of the handheld microphone.

The wiring that leads to the portable microphone is easy to understand and can be soldered onto the pins of the female jack.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to remove the handheld microphone except for cutting the cable and then using a Dremel to carve out a hole sufficiently large for the female jack to fit into the front chassis.

The jack used for the microphone is a 4 pin Goobay Microphone jack which seems to fit the CRT One just perfectly.

Add Standard Power Jack

Since the CB radio is meant to be operated from within a vehicle the radio has by default a hardwired car lighter jack attached with a wire. The wire can be removed and a standard power jack can be welded onto the chassis. In order to save time, the welding was performed by using some JB weld glue that can be burred down once the substance hardens.

Using the Dremel, the substance is progressively burred down until the power jack levels with the chassis.

Perhaps as a final retouch, a coat of paint can be used to get the color to match the color of the chassis.
