The goal of the Wizardry and Steamworks stock-minimal rEFInd template is to create a minimal rEFInd distribution that enables all the options and tools that rEFInd recognizes. It is geared towards Mac Apple machines but could potentially be used on other machines as well.

• Netboot via iPXE - Native NetInstall on Apple machines is still preserved by booting with ⌘+N
• Reworked rEFInd icons to match Apple theme.

The Wizardry and Steamworks stock minimal distribution is meant for Apple / Mac machines such that the instructions may be different on a different machine brand. In any case, the baseline is to overwrite the EFI files with the ones provided from the Subversion repository.

• Download rEFInd package.
• Create a directory to hold rEFInd distributions since OS installs may override and rEFInd may have to be re-installed. On Unix (macOS / OSX), a good idea is to create a directory at /etc/rEFInd and then place the unarchived folder refind-bin-0.11.2 inside.
• If you are using macOS or OSX:
  • You will need to disable system integrity protection temporarily before installing rEFInd.
• Install rEFInd by issuing /etc/rEFInd/refind-bin-0.11.2/refind-install.
• Now you will need to overwrite the EFI files with the Wizardry and Steamworks minimal stock distribution. This involves mounting the EFI partition which, under macOS / OSX can be achieved by issuing in a terminal as root: diskutil mount EFI which will mount the EFI partition at /Volumes/EFI.
• Change directory, as root to /Volumes/EFI.
• Issue: svn co –force http://svn.grimore.org/rEFInd-stock-minimal . to overlay the stock minimal distribution on top of your currently existing rEFInd install.
• Issue: svn revert -R . to overwrite your local files with the stock minimal distribution.

You are now done and you can reboot.

After you have installed the Wizardry and Steamworks rEFInd stock minimal distribution, you may want to update the distribution to the latest available Subversion revision. In order to do so, change directory to the EFI partition (mount the EFI partition as per the previous section and then change directory to /Volumes/EFI on macOS) and then issue svn update.

Note that re-installing rEFInd, in case of an emergency, will not mess with the Wizardry and Steamworks stock minimal distribution. If an OS install happens to overwrite rEFInd, simply boot into recovery and re-install rEFInd.
