Creating a Mavic Mini Micro USB Extension Cable

In order to operate the Mavic Mini, the remote must be connected to a mobile phone however the cable is very small such that the cable might not fit with different types of phones - particularly, phones that have a micro USB jack on the center of the phone. Unfortunately, the connectors between the Mavic Mini remote and the phone are proprietary and contain some electronics within such that using an aftermarket micro USB cable is not feasible. Nevertheless, the cable can be extended by creating a male-to-female micro USB extension cable.

Splicing a cable is easy enough given the many offers for aftermarket micro USB cables however the female connector on the other side has to be improvised. One solution is to use a micro USB PCB female connector, splice the micro USB cable and connect the 4 leads to the PCB.

The USB pinout is standard for the extender cable with straight-through connections.

Disable Country Regulations for CE version of the Remote Controller

The Mavic Mini remote controller can be connected using a micro USB to USB A to an ethernet adapter based on ASIX in order to establish a TCP connection (RNDIS Ethernet). Telneting to the IP address of the remote controller will reveal a Linux filesystem. Once inside, the file at /etc/amt/wifi.conf can be edited in order to set the parameter:

disable_country=1

such that country regulations on the CE version of the remote controller will be disabled. This boosts the power rating for the $5.8GHz$ operating frequency from $25mW$ to $1000mW$ and thereby increases the range.

Alternatively, without an USB ethernet device, the same modification can be performed using Linux or the Google Chome browser.
