Usage

To use the collector, just right-click the inventory folder containing all items and wear them. Clicking either the earth sphere or the cloud will prompt for a menu to pick a texture from the collector's inventory and will display it as a hologram. Clicking the centre of the build should prompt for a menu with nearby avatars. Clicking on of the menu options will extend a particle stream from the person using the collector and to the selected avatar.

Requirements

The items has been tested with both Snowglobe and Snowstorm viewers such that it should be compatible with both.

The design has been kept simple and with minimal amount of scripts involved. However, particles are used somewhat extensively, in particular since they do not impose strain on the land parcel. Due to this, the graphics settings should be set to medium for a guarantee that the collector will be displayed properly at all times.

Build

The full OXP (Snowstom viewers) export is available here:

In order to be compatible across all viewers, the design relies on basic shapes with the exception being the cloud that is sculpted.

There is one primitive that is made transparent and does not show up in the screenshots. It is a transparent sphere (does not even have to be sphere) placed in the centre of the build to allow the user to click their own avatar such that the collector scripts get activated. The sphere can be removed, just that it would make clicking the collector difficult given the constraints of LL VW.

Ultimately, a channel interface could have been added, such that the avatar talks on local chat to trigger the dialogs and for the operation of the collector, but for this design it was preferred to only interact with the collector just by clicking on various components.

Further Work

It would be possible to transform the sorting of the textures from tail recursion to an iterative counterpart in order to allow for more textures to be added within the sphere or the cloud, however it was deemed excessive given that after a certain number of textures selecting a texture from the dialog menu becomes difficult and tedious. Given that a touch-only system was desired, it was considered that the best choice would be to leave the selection of textures as it is. In any case, adding more textures will not make the collector any better even from a non-technical point of view.
