The compass (no, not that one, more along the lines of a protractor) and square (that thing they use to draw straight right angles easily) is a masonic symbol with loads of ramifications and interpretations. For what it is worth, a protractor can help you draw arcs and a square can help you draw right angles. Now, both of these seem antithetical (right angle is opposed to arc) but if and only if you have both, then only then will you be able to draw any geometrical shape. Universally agreed-upon sources will mention that the compass and the square are elements of architecture, yet the sources will not mention much of the former (ie: architecture, but how?).
In essence, this is a creationist symbol but, literally.
Outside of that, you can now go crazy, by building on top of it and many do. We, for example, call it an engine, for some ends and purposes and it works for us.
The symbol appears in "Kingdom" (Classic), a game developed by Noio and Licorice and published by Raw Fury placed upon a wooden contraption found somewhere on the level. The player discovers that by adding some money, the wooden structure can be developed further into a stone structure and after that the player is able to further upgrade the castle from wood to stone. More than likely, this is a reference to the "architect's tools" and their proper use, even historically speaking, when states started to invest in scientific endeavors, most of which ending up advancing their standing. There are some political ramifications, regrettably, given "crusades" and the actual origin of "advanced architecture", or, how much already existed, and how much was stolen therewith not to mention hencefrom given the "racial", "ethic" and other multi-dimensional concerns. However, in itself, the symbol does seem to represent the means to creation. Even if it is a bit of a monolith.
Then again, it is the only building inside the game that … builds itself, with all other buildings that need scaffolding requiring workers, but, you know, that's why we call it an engine, ya dummy. Don't you have anything better to read?
